“Balance” Hacks That Actually Work When You Are Busy As F*ck.
Because Sustainable Wellness Needs a Sustainable Schedule!
By Ali. Founder. Coach. Work in Progress.
Let’s talk about balance.
The word “balance” gets thrown around in the wellness community like it’s the holy grail of success, especially on social media. But the more I hear the word, the less I understand what it’s supposed to mean. Because according to my algorithm, “balance” looks like this:
- A $250K salary that somehow allows for midday golf, unlimited travel, and 8 hours of sleep
- Perfect skin, matching gym sets, and 10,000 steps by noon
- 2 or 3 well-adjusted kids, a spotless home, a thriving sex life, and all the time in the world for a non-negotiable self care routine
- A business that’s scaling and thriving, with unlimited funds for marketing, events, and a flawless social media presence
- A large social media following and perfectly curated content (and the time of a full time marketing professional) because that is somehow more important than actual experience and education
- And of course all kinds of positivity, a perfect body, and unlimited time and money to spend on a “balanced life”
The truth? We’re being fed a version of “balance” that feels more like a performance than a peaceful life. And for anyone trying to build something meaningful, like a business, a family, or even just a life that feels like their own, that version of balance is not only unattainable and exhausting, It’s straight up bullshit.
Too Much and Not Enough — At the Same Time
Here’s what I think: you’re allowed to want more for your life.
You’re allowed to be ruthless in your pursuit of success, and go hard at times.
You’re also allowed to be content with where you’re at.
You’re allowed to be tired.
You’re allowed to prioritize your family over your career.
And you’re allowed to stop worrying about whether or not your life meets Instagram’s definition of “balanced.”
The pressure to do it all, flawlessly, and without asking for help, is loud.
Being a stay-at-home partner who prioritizes building a life and a home that enables your partner’s career to thrive is considered “lazy” in today’s environment. But is it? Or could it be a strategic move that supports the whole family?
Being an entrepreneur is “too much.” It’s “selfish” to put that kind of risk and strain on your family. It goes against the traditional business model and might inconvenience people. But does that make it wrong? Or is it OKAY to lean into your creative brain and try to build something that actually matters to you, even if it fails.
Prioritizing time to take care of your mental and physical health is “selfish”.
Not taking care of yourself? “Unhealthy”. “Unmotivated”. “Lazy”.
You literally can’t win.
And somewhere in between all of that noise, you’re expected to find balance?
Respectfully: F*ck That.
I think it’s time to scrap the “balance” buzzword, and start focusing on building your life on YOUR terms. Based on the reality of your own unique situation, goals and the person you want to actually be in this world.
Alignment > Balance
If you’re driven and chasing big goals, your days won’t always be evenly divided. And they shouldn’t be.
Some seasons, you’ll grind. You’ll work late. Your social life won’t exist.
Some seasons, your energy will pour into family, or healing, or building something new.. Some days you’ll feel overwhelmed, and other days you’ll feel completely in flow.
No matter what you see on instagram, none of that means you’re out of balance. It means you’re LIVING.
Real balance is about alignment. It’s about your actions matching your values, and creating habits that align with achieving the goals you have for YOUR life.
12 “Balance” Hacks that actually work:
I won’t pretend I’ve got it all figured out. But I HAVE spent the last decade working with highly successful clients, and I’ve learned a thing or two about what actually helps them feel better, perform better, and get through their lives without burning out.
The clients I see thriving, not just in fitness, but in life, aren’t the ones chasing perfection.
They’re the ones who have simplified the day to day, who have learned to habit stack, and who aren’t afraid to outsource professionals like me, or a community like Podium.
They are not perfect. They simply have a consistent desire to be better, and remain open minded to growth.
Here are a few of my favourite “balance” hacks for wellness routines that actually work, when you are busy as f*ck (just like all of us). Because real wellness also has to fit into a real schedule!!
1. Batch Your Meals — Keep It Simple
You don’t need a different Pinterest recipe every day. Eat the same breakfast. Rotate two lunch options. Batch cook protein and veggies. It’s not boring, it’s efficient. And it’s one less decision you need to make each day (google decision fatigue!).
2. Prioritize Sleep
No hack here. Just facts. Your body, brain, hormones, recovery, sex drive, and productivity all improve with consistent, quality sleep. I don’t care who you are, or how important you are, this is your best tool. Use it.
3. Habit Stack Like a Boss
Pair your habits. Walk while you listen to a podcast or talk on the phone or dictate your thoughts for tomorrow’s meeting to siri. organize your emails while you enjoy your morning sauna and sip your greens. Make Sunday meal prep into a “date” . . .getting shit done and feeling prepared for the week ahead + splitting the load + engaged, screen free conversation = win.win.win.
4. Take the Guesswork Out of Fitness
Hire a trainer (👋 hi! It’s me! ). Join a class.Let someone else program your workouts so you stop wasting time and energy doing random shit that doesn’t serve your goals.
5. Find a Community That Supports This Lifestyle
You become who you surround yourself with. If you want to prioritize wellness, find a space where that’s normal.Podium was literally built for this.
6. Be Intentional With Your Morning Routine
This doesn’t mean waking up at 4am to light candles and chant affirmations (unless that’s your thing). It means starting your day with intention. Be consistent with your wake up time. Get sunlight. Move your body. Stack a few small habits. Take your greens. Spend 5 minutes mentally preparing for the day ahead while you brush your teeth and put on the damn wrinkle cream.
7. FOCUS: Work Like You Mean It
Time block. Batch your to-do list. Eliminate distractions. When the workday is over, put your phone down and give your people the same attention you give your business. That’s the kind of presence that builds real connection, and fosters the love, trust and longevity that we all want in a relationship.
8. Make Eye Contact
When someone talks to you, look up. Put the phone down. Make eye contact. Small habit. Huge Impact.
9. Book Your Workouts Like Meetings
Your workouts are non-negotiable. If it’s not in your calendar, it’s not happening. Set the time and treat it with the same respect you’d give a client or investor. If you don’t see how this directly correlates to your professional and personal success, stick around. I will add that to my list of future blog topics just for you!
10. Ask For Professional Support
Not sure if you’re eating enough protein? Need easy, on the go, snack ideas? Want better focus and more energy? ASK. ( 👋 Hi, again!). I’ve got you.
11. Get a Hobby That Isn’t Work
Even if you love your job. Find something that brings joy and connection outside of it. Habit stack it by including your partner or friends or kids. Hobbies make you happier, reduce stress, improve sex (and the amount you’re having), regulate hormones, and help you sleep better. It’s science.
12. Hydrate. Then Hydrate Again.
Start every day with a full glass of water before your coffee. Keep a bottle with you always. Half your body weight in ounces everyday. Literally Life Changing. You’re welcome.
Finding “balance” isn’t about doing MORE, it’s about optimizing your life so you can feel better, perform better and just live better.
Save this. Share it. Try one thing at a time. Watch your life feel a little more doable, even when it’s full.
